Russia celebrates Victory Day with large military parade

(VOVWORLD) - Russian army's military parade commemorating the 79th anniversary of victory over Nazism in World War II (May 9, 1945 - May 9, 2024) took place at the Red Square in Moscow on Thursday.

About 6,800 guests were invited to the event, including the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), including Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan and invited countries such as Cuba, Laos, and Guinea-Bissau.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said that more than 9,000 soldiers took part in the parade and 75 weapon systems and military equipment were showcased at the event. Military units participating in Russia's special military campaign in Ukraine also sent representatives to the celebration.
Besides the capital Moscow, 25 Russian cities hosted Victory Day parades. Last year’s Victory Day parade at Red Square gathered more than 10,000 Russian soldiers and 125 ground military units.
